Other Complications
Technically cerebral palsy is a disorder of the body’s motor functions which shows up in various types of abnormal movements, as described above. But the injury or developmental abnormality that interfered with normal movement often impairs other functions as well. Some one third of those with cerebral palsy will have cognitive impairments that result in low IQ scores. Twenty percent may have seizure disorders. Hearing and vision impairments might occur, but are less common. Secondary complications arising from the abnormal muscle tone and movement including scoliosis, joint dysfunction and contractures.
